Get the Party Started!!

Well, the fun is about to begin! My wonderful husband is on his way (yes, I know it's the middle of the night) to pick up our first guest from the airport. The joys of air travel....he was supposed to arrive more than an hour earlier than the 1-something am arrival scheduled now, but who can you really complain to on this crap, right?

I went to Gordon Foods and got 100 hot dogs, 40 burgers, 40 ice cream treats, 50 bags of chips, 25 popsicles, hot dog and burger buns, ketchup, mustard and relish (and a box of salmon filets, but those are for my lunches, not for the party...). Tomorrow we still need to go out to scare up some soda pop and beer. And probably some BBQ tools.

Yippee!!! The party is getting started!

Finding my way ;)

Where have I been for the last decade? Although I'd heard of Technorati, I guess I just never realized what it was...duh! Now, even I have a Technorati Profile. Go, me!

ZZzzzzz....

This has got to be my lucky day - but I hope it's not the only one this week! Baby Maggie slept from 11pm or so until like 8:30am (okay, we did wake up two or three times to nurse, but I didn't have to get out of bed for all that time!!). Even then, she woke up for a couple hours, but is now asleep in her chair again. I'm thinking I'll try to nurse her again, then I can try and get in the shower. And the pot roast is already in the crock pot :) Never mind that it's 90 degrees outside today and I'm generating even more heat...there's air conditioning in here, and that's what mom and I planned for the menu today.

If the good, mellow baby vibe continues, I'm considering trying to go to the mall this afternoon. That way we can get our walk in, I can pick up some birthday cards to send out, and I believe in my purse I even have something I got in the mail for a free panty at Victoria's Secret. Woo-hoo!!

3 Days and Counting!

That's right, only 3 days til the big bash!! Woo-hoo!! Okay. I'm going to try and cut back on the exclamation points now.

Kind of an unpleasant wake-up this morning. Maggie and I ended up in the living room (she wakes up between 4am and 5am usually, and the swing can amuse her like I certainly can't at that hour...), so I was asleep on the couch when my man was leaving for work. I remember telling him, "My back hurts." I could go find the old post, but let's just sum it up and say I had back surgery last year. When she woke up (which of course also means I woke up) a bit later, I COULD NOT get off the couch. Excruciating pain. Huge bummer. I finally rolled onto the floor on my knees and struggled to get her out of the swing. Ouch! (Darn, an exclamation point snuck out.)

Now that I'm not pregnant anymore, I really need to do my back exercises again. As the surgeon and physical therapists explained it to me, I'm counting on my abs and thighs to do a lot of my lower back's work and hold things together. Unfortunately, my abs are shot from being pregnant (duh), so I'm really going to have to get back with the program, for Maggie's sake if not my own comfort.

For now, I'm doing some laundry (need clean breast pads, as usual), and she's chilling in the bouncy chair while we listen to some old skool Styx. Oh yeah.

Last Sunday in August

Yikes! Next weekend is Labor Day already. We're having a big ole bash for a bunch of people we know from a web forum. It's going to be awesome! We're doing a Friday night BBQ here, then heading up to the cottage on the bay for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. At last count, we have people from South Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Louisiana, Texas and of course some local yokels too. ;) Luckily the cleaning people are coming tomorrow, so that shortens my to-do list considerably (of course, it also shortens my checkbook, but hey, who's counting?)

Still to-do this week:
  1. Write thank you cards for stuff received since Maggie was born
  2. Go buy BBQ stuff for Friday (meat, buns, soda, sides)
  3. Go buy birthday cards and start sending them again (I've sent cards to all of my and DH's extended family for a long time, but stopped cold turkey when Maggie was born. I didn't mean to stop, just got overwhelmed. Time to start again!)
  4. Leave stuff out for Purple Heart on Thursday (I think - it may have been last Thursday, since all my days/weeks run together...)
  5. Dream task list? Work on scrapbooking.

Today was wonderfully productive. My mom knew I was ready to crack up, so she came out to help me with the baby, and menu planning, and grocery shopping, and a bit of laundry (including re-making the bed, which I hate).

Go Mom!!

Another birthday!!

Today was the birthday party for my father-in-law. We all headed downtown to Detroit Breakfast House for brunch. It was delicious! We were a bit concerned at first that it may not have been kid-friendly, but the hostess was instantly charmed by Ms. Maggie and everything was fine. Of course, Maggie slept through the whole thing, which seems to be her regular routine. ;) Works for me! Sleeping Maggie means mommy gets to eat. :)

23 > 20 ??

For lack of finding another work at home job yet, I keep trying to get on the list for a paid blogging site so I can get paid for a few entries (especially since I've been making an effort to post more regularly...), but I just got rejected AGAIN! This is my third rejection. The first was for not having my blog longer than 90 days (completely false), the second was for not having 20 entries in the last 90 days (okay, that one can stay, since I didn't post while in labor or shortly before, due to my general miserable-ness). But now, I've been rejected AGAIN for not having 20 entries in the last 90 days. I had 2 entries in June, 9 in July, and 20 so far this month. That doesn't add up to more than 20? I think someone over there doesn't like me. :(
Does anyone have any LEGITIMATE leads for work at home stuff? I applied for one phone customer service one that I'm waiting to hear back on, but I'd really prefer data entry type stuff. Anyone need anything entered? I'm your chick!

Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner!

For real! This is one of my favorite hand-me-down outfits for my baby girl, but now the Dirty Dancing people are suing companies using the phrase on their merchandise! Whatever! And the outfit we have was originally purchased a year or so ago - so what's taken the studio so long to realize that we all already know, "Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner!"

21 August 2007

Happy Birthday, Baby J!

So today Grandma came to pick us up and the three of us (me, Grandma and baby Maggie) went to Baby J's first birthday party. Happy first birthday! Baby J is the one who gave us most of our baby clothes, and today she gave us a bunch of toys! As soon as Maggie can hold her head up, we will be ready to par-tay! hahaha
Today's other project is trying not to snap at everyone. Maggie is not one of my victims, but everyone else has been getting on my last nerve. The biggest problem is that I really, rationally don't think they're all THAT stupid. I'm afraid it's a touch of post-partum depression. Part of my depression in the past has been HUGE annoyance and rage with the world around me. Like I said, I don't get mad at Maggie, so instead of calling the doctor (who will want to put me on meds, which I despise), I'm trying to focus on eating right, getting fresh air and exercise, and consciously trying to modify my attitude and be more pleasant. Keep your fingers crossed!

Movie Night!

So Saturday night (before we knew Maggie planned on staying up most of the night) we watched Jawbreaker. Very amusing dark comedy. Very Heathers-esque (but without the bad boy - aka Christian Slater). And I've always LOVED Heathers :)
General rainy day here. We certainly won't make it out for a walk, and even the car seat/stroller is a hassle in the rain, so I didn't even bother with a shower - won't be going anywhere or seeing anyone anyway...

18 August 2007

Vroommm!!

So I'm guessing the boat is working :) He and his buddy have been gone for 8 hours so far, so they must have actually gone on their fun run. I felt kind of bad for a few minutes - a couple hours after they left, the house phone rang. There was no one there, but I could hear their voices. After this happened a few more times, I called back to tell them to lock the other guys phone keys. But they didn't hear me call, so they had to call back AGAIN! By then, I snapped at him, cuz every time they called, I had to jostle Maggie and she cried :( I do want them to be having a good time, and I wasn't trying to be a bitch. Honest.

Pictures!!

I finally found the little plastic thing to insert in the front of my computer that has the pictures on it!! Woo-hoo!!

Woo-hoo?

Well, my man just got back from sea-testing the boat, and he came back not pissed off. I'm assuming that means he has a functioning boat.
Maggie is nursing almost constantly (every hour or two). I'm guessing it's probably a growth spurt. Good thing I have nothing better to do than be her milkshake. ;)

Changes!

Welp, I updated the whole template, and that seems to have given me back my archives. Unfortunately, it took away all my previous comments :( Honest, someone has read and commented before you, it just is no longer preserved for posterity. Bummer...

14 August 2007

I've modified my own opinion of my health issues. Nursing miraculously started going fine again, but I'm still all stuffy. Maybe it was a sinus infection yesterday? Who knows. I'm on antibiotics now. And I slept for like 3 hours this afternoon, which certainly couldn't hurt :)
I applied to write some sponsored posts, but they said my blog isn't more than 90 days old? Huh. I always thought 5 years was longer than 90 days. I sent them the link to my first entry, but I guess I really need to fix my darn archives.

Not My Day

Ugh. I've now got a temp of 100.1 again, and my left breast hurts sooo bad I can't even imagine trying to latch Maggie on next time she's hungry. I have a call in to the doctor's office, but I really just can't take anymore.
We (Maggie & I) went to City Hall to get her birth certificate today (and she was an angel), then we went to the library where the bimbo renewed a book I've already read because I was just trying to get out of there and Maggie was screaming...and screaming...and screaming. So then we went straight home. No lunch for mama :(
I can't stop crying.

Four days of labor?? Yikes!! Daisy has just scared me from having a second child for a few more days. Hahahahaha... The only reason I'm still ready to go again is because there's NO WAY my second labor can be longer than the first...right??? If you have a story that says otherwise, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!! Hahahahaha....

Here's our baby Maggie having found her own thumb the other night as she fell asleep.
Maggie Sucking Her Thumb

08 August 2007

We had our first pediatrician visit the other day. Nothing but good news :) She's healty, and her weight is doing just what it should. When she was born, Maggie weighed 10 lbs 0oz. Three days later at a follow-up visit with the midwife she was down to 9 lbs 6 oz (perfectly normal). And now, she's back up all the way to 10 lbs 7 oz. Woo-hoo!! It just makes me so glad I was able to go the normal route we wanted, and exclusively breastfeed, and have a perfecly healthy baby :)

Here's our baby Maggie!!
I was hoping to have access to a cute one he just took last night - she started sucking her own little thumb to get to sleep!
